Looking for a delicious treat? This classic fudge recipe is the perfect way to end a meal or share as a thoughtful gift!

Widely regarded as one of the best fudge recipes, it’s a timeless, old-fashioned favorite that’s surprisingly easy to make. A true crowd-pleaser, it’s ideal for special occasions or simply indulging yourself. Many find it becomes a cherished holiday tradition—perfect for Christmas or any time you need a little sweetness in your life.

One of the best things about this fudge? Once it’s made, just let it set and forget it. It’s perfect for those moments when you’ve got a bit of time to spare and a craving for something irresistibly sweet!

    Serving: 36
    Prep Time: 3 hours
    Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 3 hours 15 minutes

    Ingredients

2 oz finely chopped unsweetened chocolate
16 oz finely chopped semisweet chocolate
    ⅛ tsp table salt
    ½ tsp baking soda
    1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
    14 oz sweetened condensed milk
1 cup coarsely chopped toasted walnuts

    Instructions

    1. Line an 8-inch square baking dish with heavy-duty foil, allowing some overhang for easy removal, and coat the foil with nonstick spray. Set aside.
    2. In a medium heatproof bowl, combine the chopped chocolates, salt, and baking soda. Stir in the vanilla extract and sweetened condensed milk.
    3. Bring 2 cups of water to a gentle boil in a 4-quart saucepan, then place the heatproof bowl over the simmering water. Stir continuously for 3-4 minutes, until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth.
    4. Remove the bowl from the saucepan and turn off the heat. Mix in the toasted walnuts.
    5. Pour the fudge mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly to form a smooth layer.
    6. Allow the fudge to cool and set for 2-3 hours. Once firm, use the foil overhang to lift the fudge out of the pan.
    7. Slice the fudge into squares, and it’s ready to serve! Enjoy your old-fashioned treat.

Choose Quality Chocolate: For the best flavor and texture, always use high-quality chocolate when making fudge.
Incorporate Walnuts: Walnuts add the perfect texture and density to your fudge, making them a must-have ingredient.
Avoid Over-Boiling Water: Don’t boil water for too long when melting chocolate. Excess steam can mix with the chocolate and result in greasy fudge.
Double Batch Setting Time: If doubling the recipe, allow 3-5 hours in the fridge for the fudge to fully set.
Storing Fudge in the Fridge or Freezer:
Cooling Before Storage: Ensure the fudge is completely cooled before placing it in the fridge or freezer to maintain freshness.
Fridge Storage: Store fudge in a large, airtight container. Cut it into individual pieces and separate them with wax paper. Wrapping each piece in plastic wrap helps preserve flavor and freshness. Properly stored, fudge can last up to 2 weeks in the fridge.
Freezer Storage: For longer storage, place fudge in an airtight container before freezing.
Enjoy making and sharing your homemade old-fashioned fudge!
